Just got my first sable mini rex!  She is so stunning and I can’t wait to start breeding this color.  I think I have found a new favorite!

New Herd Additions

In addition to New Zealand, Mini Rex, and mix breeds, I now raise Standard Rex.  My Rex herd right now consists of a black buck and four does - blue, black, broken black, and broken castor.  All of the does are due to have kits on Wednesday so look in my For Sale page for Rex litters soon!

Spring Bunnies

If you are looking into getting a rabbit, now is the time to reserve one!!  My litters are all getting reserved before they are even weaned.  I have more mixed breed bunnies coming in the middle of next month.  One of those litters is mixed with lop and New Zealand.  The dad of the other litter is a purebred Netherland Dwarf, and the mom is a Netherland Dwarf/New Zealand mix.  Her last litter was very diverse - I had a chestnut, a gray, two black otters, and two blacks.  I am also expecting purebred NZ litters from my white, blue tort, black tort, and gold-tipped steel does, and will soon be rebreeding my chinchilla doe and both my red does.  Last time the blue tort had a litter full of blues.  I am no longer breeding mini rex.  I will eventually be selling my white doe as I have another that I am raising.  I am also raising a black doe - I am excited about her.  That’s all that’s new for now.

5 Litters

We now have three New Zealand litters, 1 Californian litter, and 1 mixed breed litter.  The first litter consists of two does, one all white and one white with small points, and one buck, white with points.  The next litter is 5 chestnut and 1 red - they just started opening their eyes.  The third NZ litter is 5 gold-tipped steel and 4 red.  There are 3 in the Californian litter.  There are about six mini mix breed babies, and I’m not sure what colors they are yet.  There is a good mix, and they will be pretty unique, I’m thinking.  The mom is a blue and the dad is a broken blue lionhead mix.  I wasn’t expecting such varied colors in the kits, but here we are.  See the “For Sale” page for prices on each of these.
I am expecting five more New Zealand litters, and any colors could come out of those litters, because they are out of blue (by a blue buck), blue torte (by a blue buck), chinchilla (by a red buck), red (by a gray point mixed breed buck), and a light red (by a red buck).  I also have another mixed litter by the gray point buck out of a light gray lop mix doe.

More Babies

Princess, my white doe, had some babies.  There are something like seven or eight in there.  Most are black and one is either red or white - I’m thinking red.

This is my new Californian doe.  She is only five months old.  Yesterday I got another new one - she is pedigreed as well.  Now I have three Cali does and a buck.

One of my New Zealands - Dusty.  She might not be show quality but she sure is pretty.

Sage’s babies are getting big.  They will be ready for new homes around April 1.

New Additions

I started out only breeding New Zealands and Californians, but since then I have added Mini Rex and Netherland Dwarf to the program.  The Netherlands I plan to only keep a buck and a doe, and just see how it goes.  I have no plans for the future on those.  With the mini rex, however, I am planning to get more because they are just wonderful rabbits.  So far I only have a doe that I am keeping, so I will probably start out with a buck and two does.  I also have added two more pedigreed Californians out of show stock.
The little white babies are getting big.  Pretty soon their eyes will be opening.
I have no more litters yet, but I am hoping to have an NZ litter within the next couple of days.  I bred a white doe to a red buck, so I am hoping to get some black kits.
That’s about it for now.  Lots is still happening around here!

The First Litter

Sage, one of my two gold-tipped steel NZ does, had a litter of three yesterday.  They will be available by April 1.  The father was a white NZ so I am excited to see what color they will be.  I also have bred lots of other does recently - so hopefully I should have around 10 litters by April and all will be available for sale by June.

The Herd

We have new additions to the herd - 6 does and 2 bucks.  4 of the does are New Zealands, and two are minis.  Here is our updated collection:
Does
    New Zealands
-2 red (Ruby & Annie Oakley)
-2 gold-tipped steel (Larkspur & Sage)- very pretty and unique color!  I can’t wait to see what they produce.
      -2 white (Princess & CJ)
      -1 blue (Blue)
-1 chinchilla - also a unique color! (Cali)
      -1 blue torte (Dusty)
    1 Californian (Bella)
    Minis
      -1 blue (Smokey)
      -1 light gray (Sierra)

Bucks
    New Zealands
      -1 white (Steamboat)
      -1 blue (Thunder)
      -1 red (Mufkin)
    1 Californian (Mac)
    Minis
-1 gray broken lionhead mix (Casper)
-1 gray point (Cookie - soon to be renamed - we thought he was a she!)

I will be having a litter born within the next few days out of Smokey by a red NZ buck.  At the end of this month, Sage will hopefully have a litter by a white NZ buck.  In March, I am expecting a litter out of Bella by Mac and a litter out of Princess by Mufkin.  Eventually I will get pictures of all my stock, but right now I don’t really have a great setup for doing that.  Last time I set the rabbits on a bale of straw in the barn and the dog and cow were very curious and made things difficult.  Hopefully I will be able to have a designated rabbit building someday, but for now the barn is for everyone (cats, dog, cow, rabbits, ect) and it works all right.  That’s it for now!

Rock Island Rabbits

We are a small rabbitry just getting started out here in Colorado.  Right now we have 4 breeding rabbits, and 7 young rabbits that will be breeders in a few months.  Two of the 4 breeders are a pedigreed Californian pair, both of which have several legs on their pedigrees.  We will be having both a New Zealand litter and a Californian litter soon.  Pictures to come!

Eventually we will be raising cattle, chickens, and other animals.  Stay tuned!
